Celebs Take Med School

Getting into medical school is no piece of cake, as you are perfectly aware of by now. Some people focus all of their energy  constantly striving to get straight A’s and the GPA needed to be recognized by a notable medical school from the mere age of 12 continuing for the next ten years of their lives. Going to med school for any option takes a huge amount of hard work, dedication, and commitment.

Let’s take a look at some celebrities. Actors, actresses, singers, athletes, etc., may not always seem to have a solid head on their shoulders. However, it may be hard to believe, but quite a few celebrities were accepted into medical schools before they walked the Red Carpet. Here’s a list:

Ken Jeong

Known infamously for his role in The Hangover, Ken Jeong is usually on the big screen making us laugh until our stomach’s hurt. It’s a little difficult to believe that he’s been a physician for close to 20 years! This comedian completed medical school at the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill in 1995. Before trying his hand at acting on the big screen, Jeong played a real-life role as a licensed physician in California.

Terry Dubrow

Probably one of the most famous doctors in the nation, Terry Dubrow is very well known for his plastic surgery. He has worked on many celebrities, notably the cast of The Swan, and appears quite frequently on the show The Real Housewives of Orange County, while his wife glimmers in the riches of his success. Before establishing himself as one of the most notable plastic surgeons on the West Coast, he received his medical degree from UCLA School of Medicine.

Ron Paul

United States Congressman, Ron Paul doubles as a doctor as well! Pre-political days, he worked for many years as a surgeon in flight while enrolled in the United States Air Force. Ron Paul attended and graduated from the Duke School of Medicine in North Carolina. Noted for his history in politics, service for the nation, and writing, Ron Paul surprises some with his medical background and experience.

Michael Crichton

The name Michael Crichton may not ring a bell immediately, but he is very well known in Hollywood. Crichton, author of Jurassic Park, graduated in 1969 with a medical degree from one of the most prestigious medical schools in the nation: Harvard Medical School. Although he has used his medical degree only to a certain extent throughout his life time, Jurassic Park has made his name stick in history forever.

Mehmet Oz

Dr. Oz has made quite the name for himself after first appearing on Oprah a couple years back. As host of the infamous, Dr. Oz show, he is followed by hundreds of thousands of people. Earning is medical degree in the 1980’s from the University of Pennsylvania School of Medicine, Dr. Oz has been hosting his own talk show for years testing medical myths and common misconceptions. 

Dexter Holland

Best known as the singer in the band The Offspring, this may be a shocking surprise. It isn’t official yet, but Holland started attending medical school in 2013, and is currently enrolled at the University of Southern California Keck School of Medicine. Best of luck to him and obtaining his medical degree!

Jay Sean

Famous R&B singer, Jay Sean may not have completed his medical degree but certainly attended medical school for a little while. Before focusing on his musical career, he was enrolled at The London School of Medicine and Dentistry at Queen Mary, University of London.
