Although most of them do not practice medicine anymore, their achievements are still impressive! Along with these former doctors and medical students who are now celebrities, there is a current wave of doctors who are becoming famous for their practice. Ken Jeong

Known for his roles in The Hangover and Crazy Rich Asians, Ken Jeong is usually on the big screen making us laugh. It’s hard to believe that he’s been a physician for close to 20 years! This comedian completed medical school at the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill in 1995. Before trying his hand at acting on the big screen, Jeong played a real-life role as a licensed physician in California.

Sir Arthur Conan Doyle

The famous author of Sherlock Holmes actually began his professional career as a doctor. He attended the University of Edinburgh Medical School in the l870’s. He then went on to serve as a doctor on a whaling ship. Doyle was known to be pro-vaccination. He attempted to open an ophthalmology practice that proved unsuccessful. He then began work on the Sherlock Holmes series!

Ron Paul

Former U.S. Congressman Ron Paul was in the medical field before he pursued a life in politics. He graduated from Duke’s Medical School before serving as a flight-surgeon in the Air Force. Paul then went on to perform his residency in obstetrics and gynecology in Pittsburgh. He became interested in economics and policy while in medical school and decided to run for congress while practicing.

Michael Crichton

Crichton actually entered Harvard with the desire to be an English major. However, he decided to switch his major from English to biological anthropology after a falling out with an English professor. This then ultimately led him to enroll in Harvard Medical School. While in medical school, he wrote his first novel. He ended up graduating from medical school but eventually left the medical field before obtaining his license.

Dr. Austin Chiang

Dr. Chiang markets himself as a gastroenterologist, endoscopist, and Chief Medical Social Media Officer. He is a  doctor and Assistant Professor of Medicine.
