I have been doing emergency medicine and critical access hospital locums work for the past 12 years. I had my first locums job with WMS 8 years ago and haven't worked for another locums company since. Wilderness Medical Staffing is a great company to work for, and let me tell you why. Mary Ellen, the founder, is a Nurse Practitioner who has worked many of the locums jobs she is now staffing. She understands the concerns of a locums provider and is able to answer the questions I have as a provider such as pay, housing arrangements, how many patients will I see a day etc. Many other locums companies that try to recruit me have recruiters fresh out of business college who don't even understand medical terminology, let alone the other questions I have. The people at WMS really care about their mission to provide the best medical care possible to underserved areas in Alaska and Montana. I have got to know them from a business standpoint and personally over the years. They are good people who will treat you right.

Wilderness Medical Staffing is the best staffing group I’ve ever worked with. I’ve been doing this type of work literally for nearly 20 years. It works because of attention to detail in travel, employment sites, and compensation. Simply put, this agency takes the aggravating mysteries out of travel jobs. If this is your first effort with locums, don’t assume WMS is typical in how easy and profitable they make it!
