Details about Night call
- Coverage for Night call is serviced at all 4 sites (CUMC, MCB, Immanuel, and Lakeside) per night.
- Coverage for night call is not every night.
- There are very few physician to physician calls at night.
- Calls from hospital med (in house Apps) or ER or earlier in the evening come from the transfer center or the call center.
- Most phone calls are about consults (that are typically seen the next day). We send a group distribution list to notify the team coming on the next day and they should see the patient (exp: Lakeside, Hart room 3220, CP, elevated trop).
- Our call coverage is a hub and spoke call.
- CUMC call coverage is secondary call coverage, as the fellows that are in-house take all of the first call. Fellows may call with a question, but very rarely does this result in the need for the locum to come in and see the patient.
- They have APPs in house at night and the ED also has physicians and APPs at night that help evaluate patients.
- The team at Lakeside, Immanuel, and the facility may call with consults that will mostly be seen the following day, or if the condition changes on an inpatient. Calls are typically with ED admits or consults and we see them the next day. Very rarely does a physician come in to see a patient. Patients are evaluated by the ED and HMS at night.
