About the Position

We are seeking a Cardiovascular & Thoracic Surgery Nurse Practitioner for an engaging 60-day assignment in New Hampshire, starting Nov 23, 2026. This role involves participating in rotating call on weekends and weekdays (1:4), focusing on comprehensive pre and postoperative care, assisting in cardiothoracic procedures, and managing complex patient cases.

Responsibilities and Duties

• Perform comprehensive preoperative evaluations, including H&Ps, ordering and interpreting diagnostics, obtaining consents, and preparing patients for surgery
• First assist in cardiothoracic procedures including CABG, valve repair and replacement, and other thoracic surgeries
• Perform vein and artery harvesting, assist with hemostasis, wound closure, and chest tube management
• Manage postoperative care in the ICU and step-down units, including daily rounds and treatment planning
• Monitor for postoperative complications and coordinate timely interventions
• Evaluate new consults and collaborate with CT surgeons, cardiologists, intensivists, and nursing staff
• Order and interpret labs, imaging, and other diagnostic studies
• Perform bedside procedures within scope of practice
• Manage drains, wounds, documentation, discharge planning, and patient education
• Participate in call coverage and ensure continuity of care across the surgical service

Additional Information

• Experience with first assisting for CABG procedures, valve repair, and valve replacement surgeries
• Proficiency in endoscopic and open vein harvesting
• Ability to perform chest tube insertion and removal, temporary pacing wire removal
• Competence in central line and arterial line placement (facility dependent)
• Skill in sternal wound management, ICU and step-down postoperative management
• Experience with preoperative and postoperative patient evaluations
• Adeptness in managing common postoperative cardiac surgery complications such as atrial fibrillation, bleeding, hemodynamic changes, and respiratory issues
• EMR System: Cerner
