• 7 on/off schedule -- day (7 am - 7 pm) or night (7 pm - 7 am) shifts
• Days avg. 15 - 18 patients
• Nights avg. 4 - 8 admits; cross cover on 40 - 50 patients
• Closed ICU -- covered by intensivists 24/7
• No procedures required -- respond to codes
