About the Position
Description
We are seeking a Board Certified Emergency Medicine Physician for a locum tenens opportunity in Massachusetts beginning September 2026. This assignment is based in a critical access emergency department serving patients of all ages, including a 14% pediatric population. Providers with prior experience in rural, community, or critical access settings are highly valued.
This is a 3-month assignment with approximately 10–13 shifts per month, primarily evening and overnight coverage.
About the facility
This is a 25-bed critical access hospital utilizing EPIC EMR. The emergency department sees approximately 20–24 patients daily, averaging 2.5–3 patients per hour. Providers work with limited onsite specialty support and are expected to manage a broad range of emergency presentations across all age groups.
Hospital-provided housing is available, and ferry transportation is covered for travel.

Job Responsibilities
- Provide emergency medicine coverage in a critical access hospital ED
- Evaluate and treat patients across all age groups:
- Infants
- Pediatrics
- Adolescents
- Adults
- Geriatrics
- Manage approximately 2.5–3 patients per hour
- Deliver high-quality emergency care with limited specialty backup
- Utilize EPIC EMR for charting and documentation
- Work evening and overnight shifts as scheduled
Qualifications
- Board Certified in Emergency Medicine required
- Internal Medicine and Family Practice boards will not be considered
- Active Massachusetts medical license required
- ACLS certification required
- DEA required
- Minimum 1 year of Emergency Medicine experience required
- EPIC charting experience required
- Experience in rural, community, or critical access settings preferred

- Assignment Length: 3 months
- Coverage: Approximately 10–13 shifts per month
September Schedule
- Evening shifts: 3:00 PM – 12:00 AM
- Night shifts: 10:00 PM – 7:00 AM
October – December Schedule
- Night shifts: 7:00 PM – 7:00 AM
- No call required
- Credentialing timeframe: Approximately 3–4 months
