About the Position

We are seeking an experienced Nurse Practitioner (NP) for a locum tenens Cardiothoracic Surgery opportunity focused on weekend 24-hour call coverage. This ongoing assignment offers a consistent schedule of three weekends per month, making it ideal for providers seeking flexible, high-impact work.

The NP will support cardiac surgery patients throughout their care continuum, from urgent surgical cases originating in the cath lab to post-operative recovery and discharge planning. The role involves a mix of patient management, rounding, and procedural support, with physician backup available when needed.

Key responsibilities include:

• Providing 24-hour call coverage from Friday evening to Monday morning
• Managing adult cardiac surgery patients (18+)
• Supporting pre-operative, intra-hospital, and post-operative care
• Performing vein harvesting and assisting with surgical procedures
• Conducting patient rounds and managing follow-up care
• Responding to callbacks (average of ~4 hours/day including rounding)
• Collaborating with surgeons and multidisciplinary teams
• Documenting care using EPIC EMR

This role offers exposure to a fast-paced surgical environment, managing patients from ICU recovery through discharge.

✅ Qualifications

• Active Pennsylvania Nurse Practitioner License (required)
• Board Certified Nurse Practitioner
• DEA certification (required)
• Minimum 3 years of cardiothoracic or cardiac surgery experience
• Experience with vein harvesting and surgical support
• Proficiency with EPIC EMR system
• Strong clinical, procedural, and communication skills
