About the Position
An exciting Locum Tenens opportunity for a Maternal Fetal Medicine (MFM) Physician is available to support a busy high-risk obstetrics program in Virginia. This role is ideal for physicians experienced in managing complex pregnancies, maternal complications, and advanced fetal conditions.
The physician will provide both outpatient clinic coverage and inpatient consultation, supporting pregnant patients with high-risk conditions requiring specialized maternal-fetal expertise. The position includes weekday clinic coverage with evening call and weekend call responsibilities.
You will work within a collaborative perinatal care team including maternal fetal medicine specialists, nurses, sonographers, genetic counselors, and advanced practice providers to deliver comprehensive care to mothers and babies.
This assignment offers the opportunity to practice advanced perinatology in a high-volume maternal fetal medicine service, managing a broad spectrum of complex pregnancy cases and fetal conditions.
Key Responsibilities

Provide Maternal Fetal Medicine consultation and care for high-risk pregnancies

Perform advanced prenatal evaluations and fetal diagnostic procedures

Manage pregnancies involving maternal or fetal complications

Interpret fetal ultrasounds and prenatal diagnostic testing

Perform procedures such as amniocentesis and chorionic villus sampling
-
Provide management for pre-eclampsia, multiple gestations, fetal growth restriction, and genetic disorders

Collaborate with OB-GYN physicians, neonatology teams, genetic counselors, and nursing staff
-
Provide inpatient consultation and outpatient clinic care

Participate in night call and weekend call coverage

Document patient care using EPIC electronic medical records
The practice focuses primarily on high-risk obstetrics and maternal fetal medicine cases, supporting pregnant patients requiring specialized monitoring and advanced care.
Requirements
-
MD or DO degree from an accredited medical school
-
Board Certified or Board Eligible in Maternal Fetal Medicine

Completion of Maternal Fetal Medicine Fellowship (Required)

Active Virginia Physician License
-
BLS Certification
-
Experience managing high-risk pregnancies and fetal complications

Strong expertise in prenatal diagnostics, ultrasound interpretation, and fetal procedures

Experience treating conditions such as:

Pre-eclampsia

Multiple pregnancies

Fetal growth restriction

Chromosomal abnormalities

Congenital anomalies

Pre-term labor

Maternal hypertension and thrombophilia

AIUM Certification preferred
