About the Position

Position Overview

A locum General Surgeon is needed to provide ongoing coverage beginning July 2026 for up to one year. This opportunity offers a balanced mix of clinic, operating room time, and 24-hour call coverage in an acute care and outpatient setting. One surgeon works onsite at a time as part of a rotating group.

Schedule & Coverage

• Start: July 2026 (or sooner if credentialed)

• Duration: Up to 1 year

• Block Schedule: 7–10 consecutive days

• Coverage Model: 1 surgeon onsite at a time

• Shift Structure: 24-hour responsibility (5:30 a.m. – 5:30 a.m.) while on assignment

• Clinic Hours: Monday–Friday, 8:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m.

• OR Days: Scheduled throughout the week

• Weekend Call: Required

• Trauma Response: Required (ED coverage)

Surgeons function as full-time members of the care team while onsite.

Weekly Structure Overview

Clinic Days:

• 14–16 patients per full clinic day

• Mix of pre-op, post-op, and consults

OR Days:

• Dedicated OR blocks during the week

• Approximately 10 surgeries per week

• 75% outpatient procedures

Call Expectations:

• 24-hour call while on assignment

• Average callback hours:

  • Weekday: 7.8 hours

  • Weekend: 6.7 hours

Clinical Scope

Annual Volume:

• ~500 surgeries per year

• ~2 inpatient admissions per week

Required Procedures Include:

• Diagnostic & Screening Colonoscopies

• Diagnostic EGD

• Cholecystectomy

• Hernia repair with mesh

• Appendectomy

• Breast excisions

• Abdominal wall repair with synthetic substitute

• Skin excisions

• Hemorrhoidectomy

EMR Systems

• Hospital: Meditech

• Clinic: eClinicalWorks (eCW)

Travel & Lodging

• Fly into Pasco, WA (approximately 65 miles from Pendleton)

• Rental car required

• Preferred hotel accommodations or shared apartment options available

Requirements

Requirements

• Board Certified in General Surgery – Required

• Active Oregon Medical License – Required (in-process considered for early start)

• Completion of General Surgery Residency – Required

• ACLS, BLS, DEA – Required

• Clean malpractice history strongly preferred

• Self-Query NPDB (dated within 30 days of presentation) – Required
