About the Position
A 366-bed Level III Trauma Center in Waterloo, Iowa is seeking a Board-Certified, Fellowship-Trained Orthopedic Surgeon for high-priority locum tenens coverage. This opportunity is strictly for on-call inpatient coverage across two affiliated medical centers, with no clinic responsibilities.
Coverage Blocks Required:
- August 5 at 7:00 AM – August 10 at 7:00 AM
- October 26 at 7:00 AM – November 6 at 7:00 AM
Practice Setting & Responsibilities:
- Inpatient and 24-hour call coverage only
- Coverage at two nearby hospital locations
- No outpatient clinic duties
- Average daily hospital census: 10–20 patients (combined locations)
- All ages patient population
- EMR: Epic Enterprise
Scope of Practice Includes:
- Evaluation, diagnosis, and treatment of musculoskeletal trauma and injuries
- Surgical and non-surgical management of spine, hip, knee, shoulder, elbow, hand, and foot conditions
- Management of infections, tumors, deformities, degenerative diseases, and metabolic bone disorders
- Emergency stabilization and consultative call services
- ICU patient management as appropriate per unit policies
Requirements
All items must be submitted at time of name clear:
- Board Certified in Orthopedic Surgery – Required
- Fellowship Trained in Orthopedic Surgery – Required
- Active Iowa License or Active IMLC (LOQ required at submission) – Required
- Experienced Orthopedic Surgeon – Required
- Must be able to cover both specified shift blocks – Required
- Clean Malpractice & Background History – Required
- NPDB (pulled within the last month or within 90 days) – Required
