About the Position

A leading 622-bed tertiary medical center in Des Moines, Iowa is seeking a Locum Gastroenterologist for 24-hour call coverage. This is an inpatient-focused role with strong APP support and advanced endoscopic services.

Coverage Dates

• June 12 @ 7:00 AM – June 19 @ 7:00 AM
• Additional ongoing dates may be available

Schedule & Call

• 24-hour call coverage
• On-site for approximately 8 hours daily
• Weekend coverage as needed
• Patient contact hours: 7:00 AM – 7:00 AM
• Call back responsibilities apply

Practice Details

• Inpatient responsibilities only
• No outreach or telehealth
• Team includes 1 physician and 2 APPs (no supervision required)
• Average daily census: 10–12 patients (with APP support)
• EMR: EPIC
• Full imaging, lab, and pharmacy support

Procedures Required

• Colonoscopy
• Endoscopic Ultrasound (EUS)
• Endoscopic Retrograde Cholangiopancreatography (ERCP)

Requirements

• Board Certified in Gastroenterology or Truly Board Eligible (within 5 years of fellowship completion) – Required
• Fellowship Trained in Gastroenterology – Required
• Active Iowa Medical License or Active IMLC (LOQ required at name clear) – Required
• Must be experienced in advanced GI procedures
• Must perform EUS and ERCP – Required
• Availability for listed coverage dates – Required
• Clean malpractice and background history – Required
• NPDB Self-Query (within 30–90 days) – Required at presentation
• Ability to meet credentialing requirements
