About the Position

Position Overview

We are seeking a Board-Certified Emergency Medicine Nurse Practitioner (NP) or Physician Assistant (PA) for a locum assignment in Great Barrington, Massachusetts. This opportunity is to provide coverage in a busy Emergency Department within a Critical Access Hospital setting. The APP will work collaboratively under physician supervision and will not practice autonomously.

Assignment Details

• Coverage Dates: July 31, 2026 – August 31, 2026

• Reason for Coverage: APP on parental leave

• Shift Options:

  • 9:00 AM – 7:00 PM

  • 9:00 AM – 9:00 PM

  • 3:00 PM – 11:00 PM

• Shift Type: Varied

• Weekend Requirement: No

• On-Call Requirement: No

• Credentialing Timeline: 1–2 months

Emergency Department Overview

• 8 ED beds

• Average Daily Volume: 45 patients per day

• ED Physician Group: 10 physicians

• Patient Population: Pediatric through Adult (skews older/geriatric)

• Trauma Designation: Critical Access Hospital

• No Fast Track

Admission & Transfer Metrics

• Hospital Admissions from ED: ~80%

• ED Patients Admitted Daily: ~6%

• ED Patients Transferred Daily: ~6%

Clinical Responsibilities

• Provide emergency medical care to pediatric and adult patients

• Perform medical screening exams, diagnosis, and treatment

• EKG interpretation required

• Collaborate closely with supervising physician (present during assignment)

• Monitor and supervise paramedics via radio

• ED staff respond to house codes (APP not responsible)

• Deliveries transferred directly to Labor & Delivery

Requirements

Qualifications

• Board Certified: NCCPA (PA) or AANP (NP) – Required

• Active Massachusetts License – Required prior to start

• Minimum 2 years Emergency Room experience (No new grads)

• ACLS – Required

• Self-Query NPDB (within 30 days of submission) – Required

• On-Call Physician Response Requirement: 30 minutes (per bylaws)
