About the Position

A respected regional hospital in Mechanicsville, VA is seeking a Board-Certified Gastroenterologist for high-priority locum tenens coverage. This is a 24-hour on-call assignment covering adult inpatient and outpatient services in a well-supported hospital environment.

Coverage Dates (Must Be Available for Listed Shifts):

• June 29 – July 3 (Monday 7:00 AM – Friday 7:00 AM)
• December 21 – December 25 (Monday 7:00 AM – Friday 7:00 AM)

Practice Details:

• Setting: Hospital-based call coverage
• Clinical Areas: Adult inpatient, hospital consults, outpatient clinic
• Onsite Lab & X-Ray
• EMR: Epic
• No trauma designation
• Average of 8 procedures per week
• Reason for coverage: Scheduling gaps
• Credentialing timeframe: Approximately 90 days

Procedural Expectations:

• ERCP (Required)
• EUS (Preferred)
• Upper GI Endoscopy (diagnostic & therapeutic)
• Colonoscopy & Sigmoidoscopy
• Esophageal Dilatation & Manometry (including interpretation)
• Small Bowel & Liver Biopsy
• PEG placement
• Sengstaken/Blakemore Tube management
• Variceal banding/injection
• Foreign body removal & bleeding control procedures

This position includes weekend and holiday call coverage as applicable. The 24-hour call rate is a flat rate and includes all callback hours.

Requirements

• Board Certified in Gastroenterology – Required
• Active Virginia Medical License – Required
• ERCP proficiency – Required
• EUS experience – Preferred
• Clean malpractice history (required for temporary privileges)
• Minimum $2.6M malpractice coverage (Virginia requirement)
• Self-Query NPDB report dated within 30 days – Required
• Flu vaccination – Required
• COVID vaccination – Highly Preferred
• Must be available to cover listed open shifts to be considered
• Current CV (including locums history)
• NPI and/or License Number
• Malpractice documentation
• References (if available)
