About the Position
An advanced, high-performing cardiothoracic surgery program in Colorado Springs, CO is seeking a skilled and motivated Physician Assistant (PA) with at least 3 years of cardiac or cardiovascular surgery experience and ICU patient management to join their full-time surgical team.
This is a permanent position only (no locums or locums-to-perm). The team is dedicated to delivering extraordinary, patient-centered cardiothoracic care within a collaborative, multidisciplinary environment.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide expert perioperative care for cardiothoracic surgery patients with a patient-first approach
- Assist in complex cardiac surgeries, including endoscopic vein harvesting (Maquet-Getinge system) and first assisting
- Manage ICU and cardiovascular surgical patients, including rounding in CVICU, inpatient floors, and clinic
- Participate in two full-day clinics weekly and evaluate additional patients as needed
- Rotate through operating room coverage Monday–Friday
- Collaborate closely with surgeons, intensivists, physicians, and interdisciplinary healthcare professionals
- Order, interpret, and evaluate laboratory and diagnostic tests
- Develop and implement detailed care plans and follow-up strategies
- Prescribe medications per regulatory guidelines and prescriptive authority
- Perform bedside procedures appropriate for the cardiothoracic patient population
- Maintain accurate, high-quality, and timely documentation
- Demonstrate expert clinical judgment and function independently under physician supervision
- Thrive in a fast-paced, high-acuity clinical environment

Requirements
Education & Certification Requirements:
- Master’s degree in Physician Assistant Studies
- PA-C certification by NCCPA
- Unrestricted DEA license
- Full prescriptive authority in accordance with medical staff privileging
- Unrestricted medical staff membership with appropriate practice privileges
- BLS certification (AHA or American Red Cross)
- Eligible for Medicare and Medicaid provider status
Experience Requirements:

Minimum 3+ years of cardiac or cardiovascular surgery experience

Including ICU patient management
OR -
Experience with endoscopic vein harvesting and first assisting

Compliance Requirements:
- Most recent NPDB Self Query Report (within 30 days)
- No current or prior sanctions/exclusions from HHS/OIG or GSA
- Permanent Placement Fee: $18,000
