About the Position

A leading, innovative cardiac surgery program in Colorado Springs, CO is seeking an experienced and compassionate Nurse Practitioner (NP) with cardiothoracic or cardiovascular surgery expertise and strong ICU patient management skills. This is a full-time, permanent position (no locums or locums-to-perm).

The Nurse Practitioner will play a vital role in delivering world-class, patient-centered cardiothoracic care within a collaborative, multidisciplinary team.

Key Responsibilities:

• Provide advanced clinical care for cardiothoracic surgery patients with a patient-first approach
• Assist in cardiac surgeries, including endoscopic vein harvesting and first assisting as needed
• Manage ICU and cardiovascular surgical patients, including CVICU, floor, and clinic rounding
• Participate in two full-day clinics weekly and evaluate additional patients as needed
• Rotate through operating room coverage Monday–Friday
• Collaborate closely with surgeons, intensivists, physicians, and interdisciplinary teams
• Order, interpret, and evaluate laboratory and diagnostic tests
• Develop and implement patient-centered plans of care and follow-up strategies
• Prescribe medications in accordance with regulatory policies and full prescriptive authority
• Perform bedside procedures appropriate to the cardiothoracic population
• Maintain high-quality, timely clinical documentation
• Function independently with expert clinical judgment under physician supervision
• Adapt effectively in a dynamic, high-acuity surgical environment

Requirements

Required Education & Certification:

• Graduate of an accredited Nurse Practitioner program with a Master’s degree in Nursing
• Nurse Practitioner Certification (ANCC or AANPCB)
• Unrestricted DEA license
• Full prescriptive authority per medical staff privileging
• Unrestricted medical staff membership with appropriate practice privileges
• BLS certification (AHA or American Red Cross)
• Eligible for Medicare and Medicaid provider status

Required Experience:

• Minimum 3+ years of cardiac or cardiovascular surgery experience

  • Including ICU patient management
    OR

  • Experience with endoscopic vein harvesting and first assisting

Compliance Requirements:

• Most recent NPDB Self Query Report (within 30 days)
• No current or prior sanctions/exclusions from HHS/OIG or GSA
• Permanent Placement Fee: $18,000
