About the Position

Position Overview

The OB/GYN Nocturnist will provide comprehensive overnight inpatient obstetric and limited gynecologic coverage in a modern acute-care hospital setting. This role focuses on labor management, deliveries, emergent OB/GYN care, and ensuring safe, seamless overnight coverage within a supportive multidisciplinary environment.

Schedule & Assignment Details

  • Permanent, employed position

  • Night shifts: 7:00 PM – 7:00 AM

  • 6–12 shifts per month (flexible scheduling)

  • In-house overnight coverage (no separate call requirement)

  • Weekend shifts included as part of schedule rotation

  • Integrated Epic EMR system

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide comprehensive inpatient obstetric care overnight, including:

    • Labor management

    • Vaginal and cesarean deliveries

    • Postpartum care

    • OB triage

  • Manage urgent gynecologic consults during nocturnist shifts

  • Respond to obstetric emergencies and maternal/fetal complications

  • Perform urgent bedside procedures as clinically indicated

  • Collaborate closely with OB/GYN physicians, advanced practice providers, anesthesia, pediatrics, and nursing staff

  • Ensure effective handoffs to day teams for continuity of care

  • Document care thoroughly within the EMR system

  • Participate in patient safety initiatives and quality improvement efforts

  • Contribute to a culture of compassionate, patient-centered care

Practice Environment

  • 89-bed acute care hospital

  • Busy birth center with approximately 1,000 deliveries annually

  • Multispecialty support onsite (ICU, surgical services, emergency care)

  • Collaborative team of OB/GYN physicians and APPs

  • Modern facility with advanced technology and strong clinical support

Requirements

Qualifications & Requirements

  • Board Certified in OB/GYN – Required (No Exceptions)

  • Active Colorado Medical License (or ability to obtain prior to start) – Required

  • DEA (prior to start) – Required

  • Most recent NPDB Self-Query Report (within 30 days) – Required at presentation

  • Clean malpractice history – Highly Preferred
