About the Position

A well-established inpatient behavioral health program in South Carolina is seeking a Board-Certified Psychiatrist for locum tenens coverage starting May 2026. This opportunity offers a structured inpatient setting, strong support staff, and manageable patient volume.

Coverage Details

  • Schedule: 24-hour coverage (8:00 AM – 8:00 AM)

  • Call: Yes | Shared call coverage

  • Call Ratio: Approximately 1:4

  • Reason for Coverage: Temporary physician shortage (maternity leave)

  • Assignment Length: Dates TBD (ongoing need)

Clinical Environment

  • Inpatient Behavioral Health Unit

  • Average 20 patients per day

  • Patient Mix: 60% Adult | 40% Geriatric

  • One provider on call at a time

  • Supported by 1 mid-level (NP)

  • Coverage team includes 4 physicians

Responsibilities

  • Inpatient psychiatric care

  • Prescribing medications, including narcotics as clinically indicated

  • Pre-admission screening review and documentation (CMS guidelines)

  • Weekly care plan documentation

  • Discharge summaries and medication reconciliation

  • Supervision of NP

Facility & Support

  • 24/7 Lab and Anesthesia availability

  • EMR: EPIC

  • Fully supported hospital environment

  • Travel assistance available (flight, lodging, rental car, mileage reimbursement)

  • Preference given to candidates within driving distance, if available ✈️🚗

Requirements

  • Board Certified in Psychiatry (Required)

  • Active South Carolina medical license (Required)

  • NPDB self-query (within 30 days – required at submission)

  • BLS / ACLS (Preferred)

  • Fellowship training (Preferred)

  • Comfortable with inpatient and geriatric populations

Credentialing Timeline: Approximately 60–90 days
