Best Song Parodies Performed by Medical Students

The super intense school career of a medical student is loaded with the stress associated with cramming for exams, attending lectures, writing essays, performing practicals and enduring heavier workloads than students in basically any other field of study. It’s hard work.

But it’s not always full of such sober-mindedness. Just like any other young people, young med students are contributing some humorous (and often down right cheesy) things to social media these days. A trend for these medical professionals in-training is to produce lighthearted video parodies for YouTube to poke fun of some of their common trials and tribulations. Here’s a compilation of debate-ably the best song parodies performed by medical students

  • I’m So Nerdy (Medical School Parody of Fancy)

Iggy Azalea’s song “Fancy” is everywhere at the moment. But, the absolute last place I could imagine this tune played is a library…but with this medical school parody entitled “I’m So Nerdy” it puts the tune to work flawlessly.

  • Doc (Clique medical school parody)

Published in February 2013 borrowing the beat of Kanye West’s hit; this song offered the timeless line, “What I’m gonna be? Surgeon is what I tell ’em. Am I coordinated? How you like this cerebellum. ”

  •   #STUDY ft. Harvard Medical School (A Parody of #SELFIE)

Riding the coattails of one of the most recent songs we love to hate, Harvard Medical School and Harvard School of Dental Medicine posted this video online last month. However, it is a far cry from the content associated with the original tune. Instead of poking fun of “airhead” stereotypical tech-obsessed chicks, it jokes about the highly studious habits at the school.

  • M2 (Royals Med Parody)

Last December, New York Medical College Class of 2016 borrowed one of the most popular pop songs of late. The students covered Lorde’s hit song, “Royals.”

“It’s the life of an M2 (M2)
Caffeine runs in our blood
We used to think first year was hard
But now path has left us scarred
One day we’ll be MDs (MDs)
We just gotta pass the boards
And baby I’ll score, I’ll score, I’ll score, I’ll score
Let me live my fantasy”

  • What Does the Spleen Do? Ft. Harvard Medical School

A parody of “The Fox” was made by the Harvard Medical School and Harvard School of Dental Medicine. This song may have been one of the more annoying tunes that broke out in 2013. Naturally, Harvard’s medical students (who seem to just love these song parody videos) jumped right on this one. But, hey, I’m not complaining.

  • I Don’t Know – Med School Parody of “Let It Go” from Frozen (University of Chicago Pritzker SOM)

If you haven’t seen Disney’s adorable movie, Frozen, what are you even doing with your life? Go watch it. Children and adults alike adore this film. This is why I am so excited about University of Chicago’s parody of one of their catchiest tunes of the movie, “Let It Go.” Even if you haven’t gotten a chance to see this flick yet, I recommend taking a few minutes to watch this video. As far as student-made YouTube videos are concerned, this one has great quality. The editing is completely on point. Plus, Beanie Meadow, who did the lyrics and vocals for the song is a very talented young woman.
